Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation Election Results Highlights: Results have been declared for 540 seats out of 576 seats. The BJP has won 450 seats, Congress has won 58, AAP 27, BSP 3 and other 5. BJP has swept six out of six municipal corporations. It has secured clear majority in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat and Bhavnagar. The saffron party has registered a landslide victory in Rajkot by bagging 68 out of 72 seats with Congress has won just four seats. Debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made an impressive debut with its candidates winning on 21 seats.

Counting of votes for six municipal corporations, including major cities of Ahmedabad and Vadodara, is underway. Voting for 576 seats in 144 wards across six civic bodies was held on February 21. According to the State Election Commission (SEC), an average 46.08 per cent voter turnout was recorded during the polls. Ahmedabad recorded the lowest turnout of 42.51 per cent while Jamnagar saw the highest turnout of 53.38 per cent. Rajkot registered a modest 50.72 per cent voting, Bhavnagar 49.46 per cent, Vadodara 47.84 per cent and Surat 47.14 per cent. BJP is the ruling party in all six municipal corporations.
Commenting on BJP win in civic polls, Home Minister Amit Shah says, “Congress has lost deposits on so many seats & come 3rd & 4th on many others. By giving only 44 seats, people have sent a message to Congress leaders to do self-introspection. BJP’s win on over 85% seats is a victory of BJP govts’ functioning & its principles.”
“Opposition tried to create many types of misconceptions on a range of issues like farmers’ protest & COVID-19 & successive poll results have dismantled these misconceptions – from Leh-Ladakh to Hyderabad & Gujarat. Results of West Bengal elections will also be good,” he adds. (ANI)
With the BJP set to retain power in six Gujarat municipal corporations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday termed the victory “very special” and said for a party that has been serving in a state for over two decades to record such a phenomenal win is noteworthy. He said the results of municipal elections clearly show the unwavering faith people have in politics of development and good governance. The BJP appeared on course to retain power in the six municipal corporations, winning 409 of the 474 seats where results were declared till evening. “Thank you Gujarat! Results of municipal elections across the state clearly show the unwavering faith people have towards politics of development and good governance,” Modi said in a series of tweets.
“Grateful to the people of the state for trusting BJP yet again. Always an honour to serve Gujarat,” he said. Modi also hailed the efforts of Gujarat BJP workers who reached out to people and elaborated on the party’s vision for the state. The Gujarat government’s pro-people policies have positively impacted the entire state, he said.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal will hold a road show on February 26 in Gujarat, where his party registered impressive gains in the civic body polls. In a tweet in Hindi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief thanked the people of Gujarat for ushering in an era of “new politics” in the state. Party leaders said Kejriwal will hold a road show in Surat, where the AAP has won 27 seats in the municipal polls. “AAP National Convenor Shri @ArvindKejriwal will visit Gujarat on 26th Feb, 2021. He will thank the people of Gujarat for believing in AAP’s Model of Development, in a grand Road Show,” a tweet from the official handle of the AAP said. The AAP, which had fielded 470 candidates across six corporations, won 27 seats in Surat. Its workers celebrated the poll results by cutting cakes. (PTI)
