Coronavirus Live News, Coronavirus cases in India today, Unlock June 10 Highlights: June 10, 2021 – The day India lost over 6,000 people to Covid19 infection, officially. This huge jump in the daily corona tally is the result of the key update from Bihar. After an HC-mandated audit, the Bihar officials said that those who were recorded as ‘recovered’ patients were now updated as Covid fatalities. This sort of data purging will have a massive impact on not only national Covid tallies but state-wise trends also. Question is – will we see such revision from states such as Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Local media has been regularly reporting about how the official records don’t match with updates from cremation/burial grounds. In case all states start updating their numbers, India may see such a spike regularly.

If we take away the Bihar impact, the daily Covid deaths stood at 2,197. The number of daily caseload also remained below one lakh mark for third consecutive day. However, we have seen a slight increase in the daily tally.

However, more important point is collective Covid responsible behaviour. Which is missing since the unlock began. Be it sabzi mandis (vegetable market) of Varanasi or bazaars of Bihar, the crowded scenes show how people have simply forgotten the horrors of the second wave of the coronavirus. With the vaccination rate still very low in comparison with the desired target, such crowding may aggravate the spread of the virus. Because remember the virus hasn’t gone anywhere. Unlocking the economy is the need of the hour yet the irresponsible behaviour on part of the public may just bring back the devastation once again! Have we not learnt our lessons yet? Covid 19 Coronavirus Cases LIVE Tracker: Phased unlocking likely to restore two-thirds of non-farm jobs lost since May, says CMIE

The gradual unlocking process across India is likely to restore about two-thirds of the 25 million non-farm jobs lost following the lockdown in May, according to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). “This relentless loss of employment can be expected to abate somewhat in the coming weeks as many parts of the country that were under a lockdown have started announcing cautious relaxations. “These could provide some succour to the daily wage labourers who have suffered during the calibrated and localised lockdowns of May 2021,” CMIE’s CEO Mahesh Vyas said in a report. As these restrictions on movement are relaxed, these workers can be expected to return in search of employment, he added. “We can expect a quick recovery of the informal jobs that were lost in the unorganised sectors because of the local lockdowns. But, there is also a steady fall in employment independent of the lockdowns,” Vyas noted. The total non-farm jobs lost since January 2021 works out to 36.8 million. Of this, daily wage labourers account for 23.1 million, according to CMIE data. (PTI)

Maharashtra govt hasn’t hidden number of Covid deaths, says minister Tope

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday asserted that the state government has not hidden the number of COVID-19 deaths. Talking to mediapersons over reports that 11,000 fatalities in the state have not been reported as COVID-19 deaths, Tope said the government was functioning in a transparent manner. “Every district has private and government COVID-19 hospitals. The update on coronavirus deaths in government hospitals is done regularly, while the update from private hospitals is delayed and hence there is a discrepancy in the numbers. All private hospitals have been asked to submit their list of COVID-19 deaths regularly,” he said. The minister said that the health department has directed chief civil surgeon in all districts that if the death updates are not done regularly, action would be taken. The portal is updated by data entry operators and unfortunately the update is sometimes not done on time, Tope added. (PTI)

Covid 19 Coronavirus Cases LIVE Tracker: Rahul Gandhi bats for walk-in vaccination, Irani says already done

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday demanded that every person walking into a COVID-19 vaccination centre should get the jab, drawing a sharp retort from Union minister Smriti Irani who said the government has already allowed it. Those who do not have access to internet also have the right to life.” Irani, the BJP leader who had defeated him in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from his family pocket borough of Amethi, was quick to hit back. She used a Hindi idiom to take a swipe at him, saying mangoes cannot grow on an acacia tree. “The Central government has already permitted states to have walk-in registration. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday warned that COVID-19 cases and hospitalisations are “very clearly” on the rise in the country and that he continues to assess the vaccination data to decide on whether to end all lockdown measures by June 21. Speaking in Cornwall ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit, Johnson told reporters that arguments continue to be made “one way or another” as to whether all restrictions can be lifted as planned. The government is due to make an announcement on the planned unlocking on Monday. “What everybody can see very clearly is that cases are going up and, in some places, hospitalisations are going up,” said Johnson. “What we need to assess is the extent to which the vaccine rollout, which has been phenomenal, has built up enough protection in the population in order for us to go ahead to the next stage,” he said. Covid 19 Coronavirus Cases LIVE Tracker: Centres asks states to prepare plans to speedup 2nd dose coverage among healthcare workers

Terming the low Covid vaccination coverage among the healthcare and frontline workers, especially for the second dose, a cause of “serious concern”, the Centre advised the states and Union territories on Thursday to sharpen their focus and prepare effective plans for expediting the second dose coverage among these priority groups. At a high-level meeting chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan with the states to review the progress of vaccination, it was highlighted that while the national average for the first dose administration among the healthcare workers (HCWs) is 82 per cent, for the second dose, it is only 56 per cent, a statement issued by the health ministry said. Further, the coverage in 18 states and Union territories, including Punjab, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Assam, is below the national average in this aspect. For the frontline workers (FLWs), the national average of first-dose coverage is 85 per cent but for the second dose, it is only 47 per cent, the statement said. Nineteen states and Union territories, including Bihar, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Telangana, Karnataka and Punjab, have reported a second-dose coverage of FLWs below the national average, it added.
